Alber Elbaz Marks his Big 10 at Lanvin

Alber Elbaz finally celebrates his ten years at one of the world's oldest French maisons, Lanvin. Elbaz marks his 10 wonderful creative years at the helm. Known as an 'emotional' designer who has his heart set on making women of the world happy through his distinct set of couture, Elbaz is critically-lauded for bringing  femininity back into the forefront of Lanvin collections. Beyond the bow tie, he has reinvented costume jewelry into a modern chic must-have and made pleated dresses that are to die for.

Ironically, his big breakthrough from being fashion's jester into 'serious' designer was when Kate Moss flaunting her post-baby body was caught wearing one of his Lanvin pieces at a Manolo Blahnik exhibition. Suddenly everyone wanted a piece of Elbaz' Lanvin and Lanvin was suddenly once again the house in vogue.

As Lanvin toasts Elbaz' decade-long rule with a marvelous celebration of sorts- an anniversary fashion show, a golden catalog featuring 3,000 photographs that showcases the golden age of Alber Elbaz.

Who is Alber Elbaz?
Born in Casablanca, Morocco, Elbaz moved to Holon, Israel with his family at the age of ten. After his stint in the military, Elbaz hung his combat fatigues for a shot in the fashion industry, he enrolled at the Shenkar College of Engineering and Design in Ramat Gan, Israel. On October 2001, history was made as Elbaz became part of Lanvin family after being fired from YSL. Elbaz also had stints at Italian fashion houses Krizia, Geoffrey Beene, and Guy Laroche. Alber Elbaz is known as one of the most influential modern fashion fixtures.

"I am always trying to put myself inside: Every dress I do, I think, 'If I were a woman, would I wear it?' - Alber Elbaz on his Women's Wear Daily interview.

  1. Oh my Gawd! Alber really is so chic! I remember reading about him in the 2007 Time magazine issue as one of the most influential persons of the world. And influential really is the right word. Try to read about his efforts for Guy Laroche, and how he singlehandedly made innovations to transform overly conservative products, to amazing pieces of art. I mean like, WOW!

    1. I have always been a fan of fashion and I love the ideas of Alber. Did you know that he was responsible for innovating packaging of Lanvin? Their shopping bags became works of art itself. Most people would just focus plainly on the design of the clothes you are selling, but Alber cared enough to design beautiful packaging as well. He's an artist and a genius combined!

  2. Have you been to Lanvin's official website? No offense for the webmaster but the site is a total drag. The colors range from black to blue to gray. The pictures are boring and the layout is technically dead. Lanvin is supposed to promote fun, elegance and beauty, their website should be the same. I hope Alber goes online and takes a shot at designing Lanvin's site.
