Born in Casablanca, Morocco, Elbaz moved to Holon, Israel with his family at the age of ten. After his stint in the military, Elbaz hung his combat fatigues for a shot in the fashion industry, he enrolled at the Shenkar College of Engineering and Design in Ramat Gan, Israel. On October 2001, history was made as Elbaz became part of Lanvin family after being fired from YSL. Elbaz also had stints at Italian fashion houses Krizia, Geoffrey Beene, and Guy Laroche. Ironically, his big breakthrough from being fashion's jester into 'serious' designer was when Kate Moss flaunting her post-baby body was caught wearing one of his Lanvin pieces at a Manolo Blahnik exhibition. Suddenly everyone wanted a piece of Elbaz' Lanvin and Lanvin was suddenly once again the house in vogue.
